1. In April I had my first 2 solo outings with both kids, and they went surprisingly well. I took them to Cheekwood and to the zoo. The Caldwells met us at Cheekwood, and Emory had a great time seeing Lane. Emory also has fun at the zoo. She did very well sitting in the stroller the entire time. Miles was great! He loved looking around at all the new sights. While we were looking at the elephants, Emory took my keys and went up the fence and put the keys in the fence. She said, "Mommy, I let the elephants out." We have been reading Goodnight, Zoo a lot. In that book the monkey takes the zookeepers keys and lets all the animals out. I guess she was trying to be like the book. Also while we were there she kept telling me the animals were her friends. "Mommy that pig is my friend".
2. Before we make her get out of the bathtub at night, she looks at her reflection in the silver part of the bathtub and just says "shoes shoes shoes" over and over. No idea why, but it is pretty funny.
3. Before Miles was really saying "mama" or "dada" I put Miles in his car seat to take Emory and Miles somewhere, because Martin had to work that night so he was sleeping. I set Miles at the bottom of the stairs and he made a noise that sounded a lot like "dada". Emory turned around, looked at him and said "daddy is sleeping, Miles". So sweet.
5. Emory attended her first softball game in April! We went to watch Memphis play Lipscomb. My coach when I played at Georgia Southern is now at Memphis, so we had to go say hello. Em wasn't too interested in the game, but she loved running around the bleachers.
6. For a while when we told Emory we loved her she wouldn't say it back to us. Martin would say, "I love you, Emory". I would say, "Emory tell Daddy you love him". She would say, "love him". Now she understands it a little better and will actually say, "I love you."
7. When Emory gets in trouble we make her go to time out. Lately she has been in timeout screaming "Nana!! Nana!!" even when Kathy isn't there. I guess she thinks Kathy is going to save her. Haha
8. When I discipline Emory sometimes she runs to Martin crying and he picks her up and says "is Mommy being mean" just joking around. Well, now Emory is saying it. She got in trouble for something the other day and ran over to Martin crying saying "mommy is being mean to me." I guess we need to stop saying that.
9. Emory made this hand print picture at school. She brought it home and said, "this horsey is pooping". It really does look like he is pooping!
10. She is saying the funniest things lately. Martin was changing her shirt the other day, and she started grabbing her nipples. Then she looked at Martin and said, "I want to eat my nipples for lunch". I could NOT stop laughing!
11. Emory has started taking swim lessons. We are doing semi-private lessons with an instructor that Gina found. I was worried that Emory wouldn't get in the pool with him, but she did! She had a great time. After the first lesson we stayed around the pool and swam with Lane and a few other kids. Emory had a BLAST! She loves swimming at Lane's pool.
12. We had the Caldwell's over for dinner one day in June. Emory and Lane have such a great time playing together. They ate dinner together on the little picnic table, and wrestled on the trampoline.
13. We took a family road trip to Illinois in May to celebrate Grandpa Hahn's 95th birthday. We stayed 2 nights at Grandma Storm's house with Kathy's side of the family. Emory LOVED all of the fun stuff on the farm. She got to ride the tractor with Uncle Floyd and ride the 4-wheeler with Aunt Kelly. She also got to see the chickens, kittens, and baby goats. After our time with Kathy's family we headed to Decatur to celebrate Grandpa Hahn. Emory had so much fun playing with all of Martin's cousins' little girls. She got to stay up way past her bed time and play with them. They had so much fun playing with glow sticks and running around the house. When they were playing with the glow sticks Emory looked at Martin and said "I'm having SO much fun".
14. Emory got really sick at the end of May. She woke up in the middle of the night burning up, and as Martin was holding her she threw up all over him. She was so so pitiful. She was sick for almost 4 days! I hated it because my parents came in to visit that weekend, and Emory was not her normal funny self. She only wanted Martin to hold her, and she just wasn't very happy. We did go to the zoo while they were here, and Emory had fun but still wasn't feeling great.
15. Kathy was in town for a few days in June. She took Emory to McDonalds for lunch, and Emory loved it. They were carrying the tray of food to the table together, and Emory said, "teamwork, Nana." We also took Emory to Opry Mills Mall. Who knew she could have so much fun at the mall??? She rode the train and the carousel. She was a little concerned when she saw the mannequins in the store windows. Most of them did not have heads. She would point to the and say, "ohhhhhh nooooo!".
16. We set Emory's little plastic pool up on the back deck. She played out there forever, and she also wanted to swim naked. She took her bathing suit off and played naked on the deck for at least an hour. A few times she would say, "I'm tired of being naked" and would put her bathing suit back on. It would only stay on for a few minutes though.
17. Emory helped Martin bake a cake for my birthday. The entire time she was just looking at Martin saying, "wow! Great job, Daddy!".
