Emory: 3 Months

I'm 3 months old!!!

2/17/13

Weight and Length
Emory weighs  12 lbs 8 oz. She is getting so big! I have not measured her this month, but I know she has grown! We will go to the doctor next month and get an official length then.

Clothing Size
Emory is now wearing 3 month clothes. She has outgrown all of her 0-3 month clothes. She is just so long!

Diaper Size
She is still wearing size 1 diapers. We also switched diapers again...haha. I'm sure this won't be the last time we switch. We are now using Target diapers. They are much cheaper than Pampers, but they still fit like Pampers. Hopefully this will save us a good deal of money.

Sleep
Sleep has been a little more difficult this month. We moved her bath time up to 7:00 this month. We bathe her at 7:00, feed her around 7:30, and then she's usually in the crib by 8:00. She falls asleep while she's eating, so getting her to sleep initially has been easy. The problem has been that she wakes up after about 30 minutes and then won't fall back to sleep until about 10:00! Once she finally falls asleep she sleeps for her usual 7-8 hours...but it has been a challenge to get her to finally fall asleep.
Well after about 2 weeks of this we decided to push her bedtime back a little. Obviously, she is trying to tell us that she just isn't ready to sleep (she might be a night owl like her dad). The past week or so we have been bathing her at about 7:45 and she's usually asleep by 8:30 or 9:00. This has been working much better!
The next challenge is going to be getting rid of the swaddle. She is getting much stronger, and she is starting to fight the swaddle VERY hard. She is breaking out of it, and she seems like she really hates being swaddled these days. We are going to try and get her to sleep without being swaddled before I go back to work in 2.5 weeks....I just hope she keeps sleeping 7-8 hours!

Eating
She is now eating about every 3 hours. She loves the bottle! I have been pumping a lot and feeding her with a bottle to get her ready for daycare. Martin's mom and Allison both gave her bottles this month...the first people to feed her besides Martin and myself.

Favorite Activities
She still loves her play mat, but now she is much more interested in us than in the lights on the play mat. She loves to just stare at us and make her cute little baby noises. She smiles all the time, and has come very close to laughing! It won't be long before we get to hear that cute little giggle. She is so active! It's very hard to hold her now, because she wiggles and tries to straighten out her legs. She loves those long legs of hers! She is constantly straightening her legs and trying to push off of everything! She is getting much better at holding her head up. When you hold her she can almost support her heard all by herself. During tummy time she can lift her head, turn it side-to-side, and look all around.  This month we bought her a toy monkey, and she loves to hold it and try to eat it :)

Month 3
I can't believe she is 3 month old now. This past month has been wonderful. She is getting such a little personality. She gave us quite a scare this month with her breath holding episode, but I purchased a movement monitor for the nursery that alerts me if she stops breathing so I can actually sleep now! It has been such a blessing to be able to be at home with her and watch her grow and change daily. I think what I have loved most about this month is seeing her smile at Martin every day when he comes home. She sees him and instantly gives him the biggest grin! I can't wait to see what next month has in store!

Emory's First (and Hopefully Last) Ambulance Ride

Last night was one of the scariest nights of my life! It was about 7:30 and we were getting ready to give Emory a bath just like every night. I decided to go to take a quick shower before her bath. She was being a little fussy, she was getting tired and hungry...but nothing out of the ordinary. The next thing I knew I heard Martin screaming. "Lindsay! She can't breath!" I ran out of the bathroom and Emory was limp in Martin's arms and starting to turn blue around her lips. I immediately called 911. As soon as I started to call I heard Emory start crying...which was a good thing because that meant she was breathing! She kept crying and breathing from here on out... thank goodness! The fire truck arrived first, and at this point Emory was starting to act pretty normal. She was even flirting with the fire fighters. She was looking at them and talking to them with her cute baby sounds. They checked her heart and her oxygen and every thing looked fine. The paramedics arrived finally, and they decided to take her to the hospital to have her checked out. Martin rode in the ambulance with her and I wasn't far behind. She slept the entire way to the hospital and seemed to be acting pretty normal.

When I arrived to the hospital they had her in an ER room in a precious little hospital gown. She seemed perfectly happy. She kept pulling the gown up trying to chew on it. She was acting like her normal happy self.

The doctor told us that she had a breath-holding spell. These spells are involuntary and can happen when they get upset. Apparently right before this happened, Emory started to cry very hard and then she couldn't catch her breath and that's when she stopped breathing. The doctor said that if she had been calm and then suddenly couldn't breath then he would be very worried, but since she was upset and crying before she couldn't breath he was not worried about it. So after a few hours in the ER they sent us home.

We are so thankful that this was not something more serious. Of course it would scare anyone if their child stopped breathing...I am just so happy that there wasn't some serious underlying problem. I'm just extremely nervous that this will happen again. I also am afraid that I will never get a good night's sleep again, because I will constantly be checking to make sure she is breathing!

Today Emory is 100% back to normal. We are very blessed to have a happy, healthy baby. Just praying that this never ever happens again!

Just A Little Update

Not a lot of big changes lately, except for the fact that Emory is growing like a weed! I think she looks bigger every single day. I have taken a bunch of new pictures so everyone can see how big she is getting.  Below is just a little update on the last week or so...

Emory has discovered the TV, and she LOVES it! At first I thought, "this can't be too bad for her, checking out all of the lights and colors." However, that opinion has quickly changed. First of all, if the TV is on then she wants nothing to do with us. If we  put her on the play mat or on her changing pad, she will turn her head in any way possible so she can see that TV. Also, I ended up reading a few articles that talk about how bad TV is for their development. Apparently it decreases their verbal communication and learning. Sorry Emory, no more TV for you! Martin agrees...but he says sports on TV are OK :)

Watching tennis and ready for Uncle Bobby to teach her how to play.

I left Emory home alone with Martin and this is what happened.

Emory had some visitors over the past few weeks. Martin's Uncle Floyd and Aunt Cheryl came to Nashville for a wedding and they stopped by to meet Emory. Martin's parents also came down that weekend so Emory spent some quality time with her grandparents.

Emory is getting so much stronger! She still hates tummy time and screams her head off, but she can actually lift her head up and look around now! She's also starting to become a little more aware of her hands and arms. She will grab the bottle and hold it while we are feeding her, and she LOVES to suck on her hands non stop. She also started wrapping her arm around the toy bar on her changing pad and pulling it down.

She's still smiling a lot, and she is making so many more noises! She's most talkative in the mornings, and she loves talking (with her cute noises) to Martin in the mornings. Just when I think I've heard all of her cute noises, she starts making another one! Last night I was about to change her so she was lying on the changing pad, and she started talking to herself making noises I had never heard. It is music to my ears!

I've started reading a few books to her every day. She likes to look at all of the bright colors.

She's still been sleeping about 7-8 hours straight at night, but for some reason it has taken her FOREVER to fall asleep this past week. I don't know what it is, but as soon as we put her in the crib she cries, or she will fall asleep and then wake up 10 minutes later. I'm sure this will pass soon (or at least I hope so). I really can't complain too much, because once she falls asleep she sleeps great!

We booked a photographer to take pictures of Emory at 3, 6, 9, and 12 months. She is having her 3 month pictures taken in about a week (crazy she's almost 3 months!), and I ordered this outfit for her pictures. I had to try it on her, and on my goodness it is cute!

Last but not least, Emory has been enjoying Sage a little more. When Martin comes home from work he, Emory, and Sage all curl up on the couch together. Emory is actually looking at Sage now. I'm sure she has no idea what she is...but soon they will be best buddies!
