Emory: Jan 2015

So much has gone on with Emory since I last posted! It is very hard to keep up with all of her changes, and her very busy social calendar. Now that she has turned 2 I am going to try and do a monthly post detailing all of her activities. For now I am just going to highlight some of her recent activities

1. Emory is a chatter box! She is now speaking in full sentences, and she never stops talking! She loves to say "Emory did it!", "no no, puppy dog", "careful, Mommy", "Emory watch Elmo". "Daddy sit right there". I could write an entire post just on her vocabulary. Just this week she randomly said the word Mississippi. Where she learned to say Mississippi, I have no idea! She had her baby doll in the baby doll car seat. I asked her where she was taking the baby, and she looked at me and said Mississippi.
She likes to repeat everything we say, which is cute but also a little scary. Over Christmas when we were in Clinton, we couldn't find the little plastic bowl that we brought for her to eat out of. We told her that Parker took it with him. We got her to say "Dang it, Parker! Where's my bowl" while pounding her fist on the table. It was quite hilarious.

2. She loves her baby dolls! She likes to rock them, feed them, and put them to bed. She now has names for most of her dolls. Her old teacher, Sarah, got her a baby doll for her birthday so she calls that doll baby Sarah. For a while every one of her dolls was baby Sarah, but now she starting to give them separate names. The doll she got for Christmas is baby Santa, the doll that Dustin and Mindy gave her is baby Tiny, and she calls one of her other dolls baby Emma. She loves taking care of her baby dolls.

3. She is obsessed with Elmo! She wants to watch Elmo's world all the time! My parents got her an Elmo Potty DVD, and she is obsessed with it! One part of the DVD shows a giant cartoon monkey using a potty. She loves that monkey! She watches the entire DVD just to see that monkey. "Monkey's coming, Mommy."

4. She is peeing and pooping in the potty when she is at home! I took her to Target and let her pick out some big girl undies, and she liked the Mini Mouse ones. When we got home she was SO excited and wanted to wear them. We let her wear them for 2 days and she did surprisingly well. She did poop in them twice and pee in them a few times, but overall she did well. We took her to the potty every 20 minutes, and if she peed we gave her a jelly bean. We did this over the weekend, but send her to school in her diaper. Every day when she gets home from school we have been letting her use the potty. She actually told Nana that she need to poop and then she pooped in the potty! We are making great progress, and I think she will be potty trained in the next few months. The first time she pooped in the potty it was hilarious. She had a few accidents in her pants prior to that, and I kept telling her to let me know if she needed to poop and I would take her to the potty. A little while later she was playing in the kitchen and I heard her say "Emory poopy, need it need it" as she was running to the potty. She sat on the poopy and low and behold she really did have to go!
Every day she gets better and better! She will pee and poop in the potty when she is at home. I would say she is fully potty trained, but she won't go at school! At school they have a little potty, but not a training potty like she has at home. She won't pee in the potty at school, because she is scared she is going to fall in. "Emory no fall in, Mommy."

5. Emory is still taking gymnastics. She loves it! We had some issues with her not listening in the beginning. When the class starts they have the kids sit in a circle and stretch. Emory had a hard time listening, and she just wanted to run around and play on everything. One night she was being pretty bad, I would tell her to sit in the circle and she would look at me and yell "NO" and run off. I told her that if she did that again we were leaving. Of course she did it again, and I made her leave. She SCREAMED the entire ride home. She was crying so hard she could hardly breathe and she kept saying "NASTICS!" I think it was harder on me then it was on her! It made me cry listening to her cry. However, it was well worth the lesson! After that she started listening better. We would ask her what would happen if she didn't listen at gymnastics, and she would look at us and say "bye, bye. No bye, bye".
We recently switched her to the Saturday morning class with Emma and Lane. I think Saturday mornings are better than Wednesday nights for her. She isn't as tired and seems to listen better.

6. Emory is a party animal! She has been to so many birthday parties lately! All the kids in her class are around the same age, so all of their parties fell at the same time. It seems like every weekend she has a party! They have all been a blast!

7. We recently found out why she is saying Mississippi. We couldn't figure out where she heard the word Mississippi, and we finally figured out it was from a Dr. Seuss book. Then a few days later The Cat in the Hat was on tv. She pointed at him and said "Mississippi!" She thought his name was Mississippi since he was in the Dr. Seuss book. Now when she wants to watch The Cat in the Hat she says, "Emory see Mississippi!"

8. Martin was going to the bathroom one day and Emory was in the bathroom with him. The next time she went to go use the potty, she pulled her pants down and stood over the toilet bowl trying to pee while standing up. Haha. She was trying to pee like daddy. I explained to her that boys pee like that, but not girls.

9. Emory and Martin have started the "No Mommy Club." They go into the laundry room, shut the door, and Emory yells "No Mommy Club!!!!"

10. Emory pooped in her pants when her and Martin were leaving daycare, so Martin had to change her before going home. He started calling her Emory Poopy Hahn, just joking around. Well, Emory loved her new middle name. She runs around yelling "Emory Poopy Hahn". I tell her that her middle name is Leigh, and she quickly corrects me, "No! Its Emory POOPY Hahn".

11. She also corrects us when we tell her Miles' name. I told her Miles' name was Miles Bennett Hahn. She said, "NO! Baby Miles Bennett Hahn." Apparently she thinks his name is Baby Miles.

12. Like I said, her vocabulary is expanding daily. Yesterday her and Martin were looking at a magazine, and she saw a picture of a taco. She pointed at it and said, "I like tacos." He also gave her a piece of celery and a piece of cheese. She took a bite of the celery, spit it out, and said "I don't like that, I like cheese."

13. She moved up to a new class at school. She is now in the preschool 2 class. Her, Molly, Morgan, and Ruby all moved up together. There are some wild and crazy boys in that class, but Emory seems to enjoy it. She also loves the new playground and says, "big kid playground."

14. She loves to help us cook! She even uses her play kitchen to make us food. It's so sweet.

January is coming to an end and it has been a great month! I have started back to work and we have had visits from Kathy and my mom. They have been watching Miles while I have been at work. It has been great! I think Emory is going to miss having the grandparents here so much. She is such a great kid. She is smart, imaginative, and so silly. She is my sunshine and my constant entertainment. We are blessed beyond measure.
