Sleep was pretty bad at the beginning of the month. He was still waking up at least 3 times a night, and it would take him forever to fall asleep. I would put him down at 7 and he would take up every 30 minutes or so crying until about 9:30 or 10. After that he would wake up around 11:30, then 2:30, then 6:00ish. I was exhausted! Finally on New Years Eve I had enough. We went over to the Conover's house that night to celebrate and put Miles to sleep in the bonus room. He woke up like he always does around 11:00, so we took him home and put him in the crib. Of course he woke up again around 2:00, and I was so tired I decided to just let him. I was starting work on Monday, he was almost 4 months old, he is HUGE so I know he doesn't need to eat, and I was exhausted! He cried for about an hour and a half...more like screamed for an hour and a half...but after that he slept until morning! I was SO excited. I never tried the cry it out method with Emory, and I never planned on trying it with Miles...but this boy left me with no choice! I tried the cry it out method again the next night. He woke up 30 minutes after I put him down (like he always does), and he cried for about 30 minutes then fell sleep. He woke up a few more times during the night, and the longest he cried was an hour. Well it worked, and he slept until 5am! After those 2 nights we really turned a corner. He will go down at 7:00 and usually wake up only once during the night. Sometimes he wakes up at 2:30 and other nights he will make it until 5:30. I think we are both happier with these longer stretches of sleep.
His naps are about the same. He takes about 4 naps a day, and they vary from 30 minutes to 2 hours. If he takes a longer nap, then he will sometimes only take 3 naps on those day. He is still very happy
Eating
Eating
Eating is about the same. He is eating every 2-3 hours. He still does really well with the bottle. I have pumping a lot more to get ready for work. Lately he has been eating anywhere between 4-8oz a time.
Favorite Activities/Milestones
1. He LOVES his sister! When Emory is around he can't keep his eyes off her. No matter what she is doing he stares at her and smile or laughs.
2. He rolled over from his back to belly this month.
3. He laughed for the first time this month! I was holding him, and Martin was holding Emory. Martin started asking him a question in a funny voice, and then Emory joined in and Miles cracked up! It was the sweetest little laugh ever. Now he laughs a lot. He usually laughs at Emory. He loves her!
4. He is cooing more this month. It's almost as if he is having a conversation with you.
5. He still loves his playmat. He grabs the toy and rolls all around.
6. He found his feet towards the end of the month. He loves to grab them with both hand and put them in his mouth.
7. He can officially hold his head up now!
Miles has had a wonderful month! This month he took his first road trips! Miles and I traveled to Columbia, TN together. I was nervous for the hour drive alone with him, but he slept the entire time! The only small issue we had was a major poopy blow out on the way back. Other than that he was a champ! We also went to Clinton for Christmas. He did great on this trip too. He slept a good majority of the trip and only got fussy towards the end. Overall it was a success.
I brought Miles to Belmont with me so he could meet everyone. He actually came to our department meeting, and my boss held him while she conducted the meeting. He loved looking at everyone. He did great during the meeting, and all the girls passed him around. He must have especially liked Kristy. She was holding him during the meeting and he had a HUGE poop. Of course it happened during a time when everyone was quiet....and this poop was not quiet at all. I had to change him into a new outfit, but luckily nothing got on Kristy.
Miles went on a lot of Christmas outings with us during the month of December. He also went over to the Caldwell's house and hung out while Emory and Lane played. He spent Christmas in Clinton and New Years Eve at the Conover's. He enjoys getting out of the house.
He is growing like a weed, but he still has the sweetest demeanor. He is so happy and he never cries. He loves being around people and watching his big sister.
This was my last month of maternity leave and with the holidays it really flew by. I started work recently, and Miles is home with Nana this first week. I hate being away from him, but I am so thankful that he is in great hands!
Miles had brought so much joy and laughter into our lives!
This month was filled with some outings and visits from friends and family. We celebrated Emory's 2nd birthday this month. We decided to keep Miles home to keep him away from all the germy kids. Lindsay, Emory's old teacher at school, came and watched Miles while we went to the party. My parents came in for a nice long weekend to come to Emory's party, and they enjoyed spending lots of time with Miles. Even though we kept him home from Emory's party, he did get to go to Molly's birthday party! I kept him in the car seat and he slept the entire time. Miles also went to the mall with us to see Santa. They had a "welcome Santa" party at the mall. Emory loved it, and Miles slept the entire time. We hosted Thanksgiving at our place this year, and Miles got lots of love from his Nana! The weekend of Thanksgiving we took the kids to Cheekwood to see Santa. We took a family picture with Santa, saw live reindeer, decorated cookies, and Miles slept through most of it! He is so easy to take places. He either sleeps the entire time or just smiles.
His 4 month check-up went great! He was almost off the charts for length! The doctor did tell us that his head seemed like it was too flat. She said that he didn't need to wear a helmet yet, but it could if it didn't improve. We have to make sure that when he is awake he is on his tummy or sitting up. Other than that he looked great.
