I'm 1 Year Old!!!
| 11/23/13 |
Emory weighs 19lbs 3oz and is 30 1/4 inches long. That is the 25th percentile for weight and the 90th for length.
Clothing Size
She is wearing mostly 12 month clothes and some 18 month also.
Diaper Size
Emory is still wearing size 3 diapers and size 4 diapers at night
Sleep
Sleep has still been perfect! She still falls asleep around 7 and only wakes up around 6:30 or 7:00am. It has been very easy to get her to go down for at bedtime and for her naps. She just rolls over on her tummy and is out.
Most days she still takes 2 naps a day, but she seems to be gradually moving to one nap. The naps are usually an hour and a half long.
She started her new daycare this month. They have all of the kids on the same schedule. She takes one nap a day at daycare, and she now sleeps on a little cot! I didn't think she would nap at all on a cot, but she does! She sleeps for about an hour when she is at daycare.
Eating
I am still pumping and giving her a bottle, but she has also started using a sippy cup. At her new daycare they started giving them their milk with their meals, instead of giving them separate bottles. She seems to do ok with the sippy cup, but she isn't drinking as much as when we give her a bottle. She now eats only finger foods, no more baby food. She also eats all of her meals at daycare sitting at a table with all of the other kids. She really eats whatever we eat. For Thanksgiving she had turkey, sweet potatoes, green bean casserole, and a roll.
We gave her eggs this month, and she seems to like them. She hasn't had any reactions to food, fingers crossed that it stays this way.
At her 12 month check up the doctor gave us the go ahead to switch her to cows milk. I am BEYOND ready to stop pumping! I am very blessed that I have been able to breastfeed this long...and she hasn't had one drop of formula! Not that formula is a bad thing at all, I am just really proud of myself for making it this long...I know it has been beneficial for her and it has saved us lots of money!
Our goals this month are to completely get her off breastmilk and on cows milk, and have her start taking all of her milk from a sippy cup (currently she takes a bottle first thing in the morning and right before bed). We also need to wean her off the nighttime bottle soon.
She also learned how to drink out of a straw this month. After church one Sunday we decided to go out to eat. We ordered Emory some chicken fingers off the kids' menu, and they came with water in a cup...with a straw. We figured we would give it to her and see what she could do, and she figured it out instantly!
Favorite Activities/Milestones
She's not quite walking yet. She will walk when she is holding onto something, and she will even take about 4 or 5 steps on her own....but she's just not there yet. I think she just likes to crawl too much! She is still crawling everywhere!
She has learned a few new words this month. She still says "mama" and "dada" but she also says "ball" and "bird". Anytime she sees an object in the shape of a ball she points at it and says "ball"...and when we ask her "where is your ball" she looks around, finds it and points at it.
She is still waving hi and bye, but now she actually says "bye bye". (when she wants to)
It seems like she is developing so fast now! She will give us kisses now, and she will even kiss her baby doll. On Thanksgiving she started blowing kisses. Martin's Grandma was blowing Emory kisses. and next thing we knew she was blowing them back! She also learned to clap her hands this month. I was bathing her one night and she started crying, so I started singing "If You're Happy and You Know It" (maybe that's why she was crying). In the middle of her crying spell she just stopped and started clapping her hands with me.
Another interesting development this month is the fact that she can throw temper tantrums. She was trying to crawl up the stairs, and Martin wouldn't let her. She proceeded to sit on the floor with her legs spread apart, scream and place her head on the floor in between her legs. As soon as something else caught her attention she instantly stopped screaming. I think we are going to have our hands full with this one!
She has also learned to shake her head "yes" and "no", although she does "no" a lot more than "yes"!
Once again Emory has been sick this month. She had not one, but two ear infections. She finished her antibiotics on Monday, and when we went for her one year check up on Wednesday she had a double ear infection! Poor things really can't catch a break. I think she is going to have to have tubes placed at some point.
Month 11
I can't believe our little girl is a year old! This has been the most challenging, scary, and rewarding year of my life. She has brought so much joy, laughter, and purpose to our lives. This month was filled with a first birthday party (which I will post about soon), a Baptism, and Thanksgiving! Here's to many more wonderful years with our little girl.
