Miles: 6 Months

I'm 6 Months Old!!!

Weight and Length
He was 28 inches long which is the 92nd percentile for length. He weighs 18lbs 2oz, which is the 55th percentile.

Clothing Size
I went to a consignment sale towards the end of the month. Since it is almost spring the sale had mostly spring/summer clothes. I figured that since Miles was almost 6 months old, he would fit into 9 month clothes by spring....WRONG! I bought him a few 9 month things, and when I tried them on him they fit perfectly. So there is no chance they will fit him in another month. So I had to buy him 12 months!!! He is so big. He is currently wearing 9 months, but will be in 12 months by spring time!

Sleep
Just when it was getting better...it got worse again! Miles was sick for the first time this month, and I think it really made it hard for him to sleep. At the beginning of the month, when we first got a stuffy nose, he was waking up around 11, then 3, then 6. He was also rolling over on his tummy and getting his arm stuck in the crib railing, which was waking him up as well. Also, the medicine for his ear infection really hurt his tummy. He was waking up in the mornings with massive poops!
Luckily, once his ear infection was treated his sleep has been better. He is only waking up around 3:00 to eat now and then will sleep until about 6:00.
The past few days I have been putting him down for naps and bedtime awake, but sleepy. He will cry for a few minutes to settle himself down, and then he's out!
He is only taking 3 naps a day now. The beginning of the month he was still taking all 30 minute naps. Towards the end of the month his naps have been longer.

Eating
Eating is about the same. He is eating every 3 hours. He has been eating anywhere between 4-8oz a time. I am still exclusively pumping and giving him breast milk. At his 6 month check up the doctor told us to it is time to start solids! She wants us to start with rice cereal twice a day. Once he gets the hang of eating we will increase it to three times a day and add veggies.

Favorite Activities/Milestones
1. He has starting making the motor boat noise. He spits everywhere when he does it!
2. He was officially sick for the first time this month. Lots of congestion and coughing which eventually lead to an ear infection and his first round of antibiotics. He woke up with so much gunk in his eyes he could barely open them. It was so sad.
3. He is now doing his barrel rolls! He rolls all over the floor. We put him down on one side of the living room and he rolls all the way to the other side. He uses his rolling to get toys and anything else he wants.
4. He used his jumper/exersaucer for the first time this month. At the beginning of the month his feet couldn't touch the floor and he couldn't move much in it. Now not only do his feet touch the floor, but he makes himself jump! He can also make himself spin all the way around in it and play with all the toys.
5. He is much more vocal. He loves to grunt and even yell. It's not an unhappy yell, it's just a someone play attention to me yell. He likes to yell at his toys and he is making noises constantly.
6. This boy loves Sage! When she is around he won't take his eyes off her. He tries to grab her all the time.
7. He went from pooping once every 5 days last month to pooping almost 5 times a day recently! The reason for the change is that he had to take a 10 day course of Augmentin for his ear infection. Augmentin is really tough on the stomach and causes lots of diarrhea. I felt awful for him! He was pooping all the time, and you could tell his tummy really hurt him. Thankfully it has been better since he finished the antibiotic. Now he is back to pooping about once a day.
8. We have to give him iron daily since he is exclusively breastfeeding. He hates it, but actually takes it surprisingly well. He makes the funniest face when we give it to him. If it tastes as bad as the face he makes I feel bad for him.
9. He sleeps in a sleep sack still. We had a few that Emory used, so instead of buying new ones we are using her old ones. Poor guy has to sleep in a pink zebra- stripe sleep sack. He's secure in his manhood!
Month 5
Miles is still the happiest baby on the planet. He never cries! He just smiles and laughs all the time.
This month was cold! We were snowed in twice this month. It was actually nice to have the days off work to spend with Miles.
Kathy spent a week watching Miles this month. She watched him while we went to the Conover's house to watch the Superbowl. Next year Miles will be able to join us in the fun! My mom also spent a week watching Miles, and my dad came down for a weekend.
Miles has one more month at home and then he starts daycare. I am looking forward to the routine, but hate taking him when he is still so little!
