Emory: 6 Months

I'm 6 months old!!!
5/20/13

Weight and Length
Emory weighs 16 pounds and 1oz,  and  she is 26 3/4 inches long. That is the 50th percentile for weight and the 90th for length.

Clothing Size
Emory has outgrown most of her 6 month clothes. She is wearing mostly 6-9 month clothes.

Diaper Size
Emory is now wearing size 2 diapers. We actually had to go up to size 3 night time diapers, because she kept leaking through the size 2 diapers. I still think its due to the fact that they were too small and NOT due to the fact that I wasn't putting them on tight enough :)

 Sleep
Sleep has been about the same this month. She goes to bed around 7 and still wakes up to eat once a night. Lately she has been waking up around 11 to eat, and then she doesn't wake up again until about 7am. I'm sure that she can go all night without eating at this point, but when she wakes up in the middle of the night she seems like she is starving! She has been pretty sick for the past week, so that has disrupted her sleep a little this month, but overall she's doing pretty great.
Recently she has started sleeping on her stomach. The first night I noticed it was the night that Martin and I went to the Black Keys concert and left her with my parents. Randomly that night the power went out, so of course the video monitor went out also. I never had a doubt that she was in great hands with my parents, but when I walked into her room I saw her on her stomach and my heart sank a little bit. I know that once they start rolling over its ok for them to sleep on their stomach, but she has always HATED being on her stomach..so naturally when I saw her on her stomach I checked to see if she was breathing. Of course she was perfectly fine, and since then I have found her sleeping on her stomach a couple more times.
Naps have actually improved this month! I have been getting so frustrated with her 30 minute naps...I know that a 6 month old baby needs to nap longer than that. Finally, I put a post on facebook asking for any advice on this matter. We got lots of great input, but our friend Kelly's advice really made a difference. Kelly has twin girls, so she's a great source of advice. She suggested that I not pick Emory up when she wakes up at the 30 minute mark. She said to go in, soothe her, and try to teach her to put herself back to sleep. I swore this would never work. When she wakes up at the 30 minute mark she is WIDE awake...there was no chance she would fall back asleep. I figured I would at least try it once, I have tried everything, so I figured why not. I put her down for a nap, and like clockwork she was wide awake after 30 minutes. I went up to her room, put the pacifier back in her mouth, rubbed her head, and walked out. I repeated this for 45 minutes...and then what do you know...she finally fell back asleep and slept for another hour! I was amazed! Ever since that day her naps have improved. She still has some 30 minute naps, but they have decreased drastically. Most of her naps will last at least 45 minutes and go up to an hour and a half. This past week she even napped for an hour and a half at day care, which had never happened. Thanks, Kelly! I hope she keeps this up.

Eating
She is still taking a bottle about every 3 hours, and I am still exclusively pumping and feeding her with the bottle. We still feed her the rice cereal at night. I thinks she's over the boring rice cereal at this point, because she hasn't been eating much of it. Emory finally tried her highchair out this month, and she is so cute sitting in that chair! She looks so big. We just started adding oatmeal right before she turned 6 months old. She will eat oatmeal in the morning and rice cereal at night. At her 6 month check up the doctor told us that it is time to start adding some fruits and veggies. We are going to feed her breakfast, lunch, and dinner now. We will see how she likes the new food! I'm excited to watch her try new things.

 Favorite Activities/Milestones
This month Emory has become VERY active! Her favorite activity now is rolling all over the place! At the beginning of the month she would occasionally roll over from her back to her tummy and then back again. It took her a lot of effort to do just one little roll. Well....that was not the case at the end of the month! Now when we place her on the floor she rolls from one side of the blanket all the way over to the other side. She barrel rolls over and over. It is SO funny to watch! I can't believe the difference that one month makes. She even rolls around in her crib like that at night.
Her new discovery this month has been the fact that she can make "farting" noises with her lips. It is absolutely the cutest thing I have seen her do at this point. She purses her lips together and concentrates so hard, makes the noise with her lips and then smiles. If Martin makes the noise, she will copy him and make it also. I think she has figured out that we like it when she makes that noise, because every time we have people over to the house she makes the noise over and over...and of course everyone laughs. She's learning what to do to get all the attention. We may have an attention hog on our hands.
Emory also tried her jumper out for the first time this month. She's still trying to get the hang of it, but she really enjoys playing with all of the toys.
She's still taking a lot of interest in Sage. Her eyes light up and she gets the biggest smile on her face every time she sees Sage!
Another fun thing that happened this month was seeing Emory learn to put the pacifier in her mouth. Up until now, when the pacifier fell out of mouth I had to put it back in. This month she started picking up the pacifier and putting it back in her mouth all by herself. Now she does it all the time! Watching her do this is making me realize that she is growing into such a little person!

Month 6
What a fun month! We started the month off with a nice rainy weekend at home. Usually we spend the weekends trying to get as much done around the house as possible. However, the rain forced us to stay inside, which actually ended up being perfect! We spent the entire weekend playing with Emory and spending time together as a family. It was probably one of the best weekends I have had in a long time, and we didn't do anything at all!
Emory got to see my parents this month. They came down the first weekend of May to babysit for us. Martin had to work that weekend, and I had to go to graduation at Belmont, so they stayed to watch Emory. While they were here, Martin and I took advantage of having them and had a night out. We went to the Black Keys concert with Dustin and Mindy. It was an awesome concert, and it was nice to get out of the house for a little while.
This month Emory got to help us celebrate Sage's birthday! Sage turned 2 on May 9th. We had a birthday party for her complete with a doggy cake, and we had her brother Baylor over to celebrate. Probably the most exciting event that occurred this month was the birth of Emory's cousin, Parker Thomas Reynolds. He was born on May 16th, almost exactly 6 months after Emory. Josie, Bobby, and Parker are doing great! Unfortunately we have not been able to make the trip to Atlanta to see Parker yet. .We were planning on going to see him the weekend that we has born, but Emory has been pretty sick and we did NOT want to risk getting little Parker sick. We ended up taking Emory to the doctor twice this month. The first visit the doctor told us she just had a cold and there wasn't much we could do. Well, after about a week and a half she actually started feeling worse...with a terrible cough, lots of congestion, and some nasty green stuff in her eyes, We took her back last week, and it turns out that she has a double ear infection. Even though she was pretty sick, she was smiling the entire time! She really is a happy baby.
Emory has changed so much this month! She is constantly rolling over, trying her hardest to sit up when you lay her on her back, and making all kinds of new noises. Every day she does something new! I cannot even begin to explain how much I love this precious little angel.

Changing By The Minute

A lot has gone on since the last post! Emory has received LOTS of visits from her grandparents. Martin's parents came into town for Dustin and Mindy's wedding. Emory had so much fun visiting with her Grandpa and Nana. She even went to her first restaurant...she loved hanging out at the Mexican restaurant. Dustin and Mindy's wedding was beautiful. I will post some pictures soon.

First time being held by Uncle Dustin
My parents have made two trip to see Emory recently. They came into town the weekend of April 13th, and May 4th. This was the first time that my dad had seen Emory since Christmas! We spent most of the time hanging around the house with Emory. Martin and I took advantage of having them here, we enjoyed a night out! We went to the Black Keys concert with Dustin and Mindy....needless to say it was GREAT! Below are some of the pictures from their visits

Martin and I have really enjoyed seeing how much Emory has changed lately. She is a little rolly polly now! She is constantly rolling from back to belly and belly to back. She's even started sleeping on her belly now. Last night she slept all night on her belly with her butt in the air....it was pretty cute. We also put her bouncer together and she has such a fun time playing with all the toys. She's still not quite sure how to bounce or turn around...but she loves the toys.

Getting much better at tummy time

Emory also had a visit from her friend Hudson recently. Hudson is 5 months older than Emory and he is crawling EVERYWHERE! It made me realize that things are about to get very interesting when she starts crawling.

Emory has been babbling a lot. She has started making the cutest little "farting" noise with her lips. She spits all over the place when she does it, but it is very very cute!

I went to the kitchen, and when I came back she had this tray in her hands.

I really can't believe that she is almost 6 months old! She has literally been changing every single day. It's only a matter of time before she is sitting up on her own. When we lay her down on the floor she lifts her head off the ground and tries her hardest to sit up.

Today we celebrated my first Mother's Day. It doesn't feel like I am actually a mom. Martin got me a beautiful charm bracelet with a charm that says "mom", one that is a slipper with Emory's birthstone that has her name engraved on the back, and a great dane charm! Very thoughtful....and meaningful. Next weekend we will be heading to Atlanta to welcome Emory's cousin Parker into the world. He still hasn't made his appearance yet, but they will induce her Thursday if he's still being stubborn. Lots of pics of Parker will be coming soon!
